MEET THE TEAM BEHIND THE PROGRAM

Deborah Lashley, Ed.D.

Founder & Creator of Reverse Reading™

Deborah Lashley, Ed.D., is the creator of Reverse Reading, a reading intervention program designed to help struggling readers build fluency and achieve academic success. Raised in a low-income immigrant family, Dr. Lashley experienced firsthand the transformative power of literacy and education. That experience inspired her lifelong commitment to helping students overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential. With more than 35 years in education, she has dedicated her career to supporting struggling learners while fostering confidence, achievement, and a lasting love of learning.

Throughout her career, Dr. Lashley saw many middle and high school students continue to struggle with reading despite years of intervention. Determined to find a more effective approach, she developed a program that uses the same foundational elements as traditional reading instruction but presents them in a different sequence and format to reduce cognitive load and promote reading success. As she refined the approach, students began making remarkable progress. Parents often reported gains not only in reading skills but also in confidence, motivation, attitude, and overall behavior.

Today, Dr. Lashley continues to expand Reverse Reading, helping learners of all ages strengthen their reading skills, unlock their potential, and create new opportunities for the future.

Courtney Burnett

Director of Member Success

Courtney Burnett brings 15+ years of business experience to the Reverse Reading team, alongside a background as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant and Special Education Advocate. She has spent her career working alongside families, educators, and tutors navigating the challenges of special education, and she knows firsthand how hard it can be to watch a child struggle with reading while searching for something that actually works.

When she found Reverse Reading, she wasn't looking at it as a professional. She was looking at it as a mom. Seeing the difference it made for her own child is what brought her to the team.

Courtney supports Reverse Reading members by answering questions, helping with site navigation, and making sure families, tutors, and educators feel confident using the program from day one.
